Leavin’ on a Jet Plane..

8 Jul

Ok maybe I am not leaving on a Jet Plane. I let you in on my wild rides of New York but left out the ride home. Which was MUCH wilder! Our Flight out of La Guardia Airport was scheduled for 10AM on Sunday the 20th. But we learned early that our flight had been canceled and the scramble began. We tired to get on the next leaving flight but was unable too. We were stuck in the airport until 2:30 when the next connecting flight through Columbus OH was set to take off. Waiting in the Airport was a huge bore because there really isn’t too much to do in the airport and by 2:30 I had used my phone so much the battery was almost dead. My thought – must.save.battery. We got notice overhead that our flight was leaving and I was so excited because I couldn’t stand another minute in that airport. I was going stir crazy! We boarded what I can only describe as a executive plane (it was really small) for Columbus. It was supposed to be a short flight from NY to OH only 45 minutes. We started to take off and immediately hit to ground again. Pilot came on over head and told us we were heading back to the airport – we won’t be taking off now. Inside the airport it was announced that the plane would take a few runs empty and come back and pick us up once the coast was clear. Cool beans I thought – we will be home in no time! Except a few runs turned into a few hours. Thankfully we switched our connecting flight out of Columbus for the last possible time 7:30. At 5:30 it was announced that the flight was ready to go – but won’t be leaving until 7:00PM. What??? that means we will miss our connection in Columbus and not make it back to Minneapolis! Minnesota “nice” was not “nice” anymore. Time to complain (we actually did complain most of the day – Airport Customer Services Sucks!!). We ended up staying another night in NY with an airline paid hotel room. They also gave us roughly $90.00 dollars in food vouchers for the food court in which we promptly spent all of it. We ended up getting on a flight early Monday AM which I kept my fingers crossed all night would not be canceled!

Oh – and the best part? Our luggage had already made a flight to Minneapolis early AM on the 20th. Next time I fly I am cramming myself into my luggage. :-)
