Dear Grandma,

1 Dec

This year I will really miss your 6:00 AM Happy Birthday call. You will sing the Happy Birthday song to me and I would repeat it for you. You have been gone for awhile now, but for some reason this year is just harder than others. I remember when I turned 16 and you turned 61. We used to laugh so much about our Birthday’s being on the same day. It made me feel so special to share a day with you.

You and I had so much in common it was scary at times. We dressed the same way (even though everyone thought we looked like bag ladies), we laughed at the same jokes and even liked the same things! I could share anything with you and instead of giving me lectures you discussed it with me. You always made me feel important. You were also full of tough love and taught me how to treat people. You were so caring at all times. Part of that might of been the nurse in you. I can’t help but to think that you would be helping me deal with my thyroid issues right now if you were still here. I still have the poem you gave me shortly before you died and I still see your face in the mirror. I know you are looking over me and taking care of me.

I remember I told you I planned on traveling the world before I got married! However, marriage came first. I want you to know I have traveled all over with my hubby! We have been to New York, San Fransisco, Las Vegas (your favorite place!) and Florida. I was kissed by Wayne Newton in Vegas and we got to see Sigfried and Roy before their terrible accident. I am sure he will take me to many more places in our life!

You wouldn’t even remember our house from the first time you saw it. It has changed soo much! We have built a wonderful home for us to live. We have a beautiful pond out back where your favorite rocks sits in the summer. I put it there so you can watch all the fishes swim! The cats are getting big and we can’t imagine life without them.

We are looking forward to a great future and miss your smile and laughter greatly.

Happy Birthday Bag Lady :-)

Much love and kisses!

Jody…my maternal grandfather and I have the same birthday…isn’t that a wonderful thing! He is still living…but this letter touched my heart as I can only imagine how it will feel when he is gone on ‘our day’!

    Ronda,
It is a wonderful thing! My Grandma and I were so much alike. I hope that you and your grandfather share many laughs as my grandma and I did. Thanks for commenting on my letter to her. She was very special to me and I am very honored to have her as my grandma. Enjoy all your laughter with your grandfather while he is here. It will give you great memories!
